Soothing Elements is a California based studio by artist Caesar Krauss, where he creates handmade waterfalls built into pottery. These one of a kind handcrafted designs comprise a niche all their own; in fact the studio predates the current trend of tabletop waterfalls which are typically constructed in bowls or basins.

Pottery Fountains Are Art

The container designs, each a work of art, were inspired both by history and by Krauss's travel around the world. The Pompei is a reproduction of an old-world tapestry scene found by a shopping trip in Tuscany; the Amphora harks back to the pottery used by the ancient Greeks to transport their valuable olive oil, wine and water.

Pottery Fountains Are Unique

Each piece is carefully crafted in his studio in Huntington Beach, CA. He gingerly breaks open each piece of pottery, then carefully cuts and arranges each rock to ensure a perfect fit. A small self-contained submersible fountain pump cascades the water from top to bottom, with a light illuminating the entire effect, hinting of nature's soothing sounds. All you need to do is add water, plug in and enjoy.

The Inspiration for these works of art came to Ceasar while vacationing in Costa Rica in 1997. While gazing into one of the waterfalls, he lost himself in the cascading flow of the water. captivated by the hypnotic sounds of nature's Soothing Elements, Ceasar decided to bring that feeling of serenity to his home in Los Angeles.

He spent endless weekends experimenting with several waterfall concepts. To simulate the water falling over the rocks, he tried using the inside wall of a vase. After the first few were completed, his family and friends were astonished with the works of art and they too wanted one for their homes. This demand transformed his hobby into a viable business overnight.

He then rented a studio in Huntington Beach Ca. and started creating the first collection of waterfalls. As the year transpired, the demand far exceeded the supply of pottery used in creating these works of art. So, Ceasar went to Mexico to meet a master potter who could meet the demands of his designs. They solidified their relationship and now ship containers full of unique pottery to the studio in Huntington Beach, Ca.

Pottery Fountain Design Process

At the studio, Ceasar breaks open each piece of pottery and carefully searches, cuts and forms each rock to ensure a perfect fit. This allows the water to gracefully cascade along the rocks into a clear pool of water, simulate the soft glow of a dewy sunrise. To bring out the beauty of the natural stone, he gently applies just the right tones and colors to the pottery. The result is not just a fountain, but also a beautiful work of art.
